Bus travel in Morocco is particularly useful when your route includes places beyond the railway network, such as Chefchaouen, Essaouira or Agadir. Compare the actual departure, terminal, arrival time and luggage arrangements before choosing an operator. A slightly cheaper ticket can lose its advantage if it leaves you far from your accommodation or creates an awkward connection.

CTM and Supratours are two operators worth checking first for a planned intercity journey. Neither name removes the need to inspect the booking: the coach category, stops and arrival arrangements still matter.

Within the wider choices for getting around Morocco, coaches can provide the road stages between rail-connected cities and destinations farther afield. This guide focuses on choosing and using those services, from buying the ticket to collecting your bags at the other end.

When Long-Distance Bus Travel in Morocco Makes Sense

A long-distance coach suits a straightforward journey between two places where you want to stay. It is especially useful when rail does not serve the destination or the available coach is more convenient than a combination of other services.

Think of a bus ticket as transport to a named stop, rather than a sightseeing itinerary. Passing through a mountain landscape does not mean you can stop to photograph it, visit a village and resume the same journey later.

Compare buses with rail on corridors where both operate. For journeys involving Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Marrakech or Fes, train travel in Morocco may offer an alternative. The better choice depends on the departure and arrival stations, time and fare you can actually book.

For several sightseeing stops, unusually bulky luggage or a remote property, compare a private road arrangement separately. A bus can be economical without being the most practical tool for every part of your holiday.

CTM and Supratours Serve Different Planning Needs

CTM for an independently booked coach journey

A CTM intercity coach waits at its departure bay in Morocco

CTM operates a substantial intercity network and sells tickets through its own website and physical sales channels. Its booking system lets you search departure and arrival locations and compare the services available for your date.

Use CTM’s official website to reach its booking system, agency directory and passenger information. A departure listed for one date does not establish a daily timetable throughout the year.

CTM markets several coach categories, including Confort, Confort Plus and Premium. Look at the category attached to the actual departure, rather than assuming that every service uses the vehicle shown in a promotional photograph.

Supratours for coach journeys and rail continuations

Supratours is an ONCF subsidiary providing coach links to destinations beyond the rail network. That makes it worth investigating when your itinerary combines a train with a road stage.

The official Supratours website provides the starting point for route searches, booking and passenger information.

A rail-linked service is not permission to ignore the interchange. Establish where you leave the train, where the coach boards, what happens to your luggage and what the booking says about a missed connection.

The departure may be convenient for a railway station, but do not assume every Supratours coach departs from the station forecourt. Use the location on the issued booking.

Other intercity operators

Other companies can be useful, particularly for a route or departure not covered by your first choices. Assess the actual service instead of assuming every smaller operator follows one standard.

Ask about the terminus, scheduled stops, whether you change vehicles, baggage handling and ticket conditions. An attractive departure time means less when the destination is unclear.

Likewise, a general bus station is not automatically the correct place for a CTM or Supratours booking. The operator and the specific departure determine where you board.

How to Book CTM Tickets

Search the right origin and destination

Enter the city or boarding location offered by the system, your travel date and the number of passengers. Review the departure details rather than selecting only by the first price shown.

Distinguish a direct journey from one requiring a change. Also distinguish direct from nonstop: a coach can continue to your destination without a vehicle change while still making intermediate stops.

If the search offers several locations in one city, compare them with your accommodation before payment. Do the same for the arrival point.

For travel after midnight, check the calendar date carefully. A coach departing at the beginning of a day belongs to that date, even if you think of it as the night following the previous evening.

Choose the seat and coach category

Where seat selection is offered, look at the layout and select the place you intend to use. CTM requires passengers to respect the seat number on their ticket.

An aisle may suit someone who wants easier movement during a stop. A window may suit someone who prefers to rest against the side or watch the landscape. Neither guarantees an uninterrupted view or a quiet neighbour.

For a group, inspect the assigned seats. Several tickets in one purchase should still be checked for whether the passengers sit together.

Check the passenger information and payment result

Enter the traveller information requested by the seller and review it before paying. If you are booking for someone else, use the details required for that passenger.

If an identity field does not accommodate your document, contact the operator or use an appropriate official sales channel. Do not invent an identification number to force the form through.

After payment, look for an issued ticket and booking reference. A card authorisation, shopping-cart screen or payment-pending message is not the same as a completed ticket.

If the payment result is unclear, check email and booking status before trying again. Save the confirmation and keep it accessible offline.

CTM states that printing its e-ticket is not necessary. Retain the usable ticket on your phone, keep the battery charged and follow any instructions included with your purchase.

Booking at a Counter or Through an Intermediary

At an operator’s counter, show the desired destination, date and departure in writing. Confirm the boarding address and ask about luggage before leaving.

Buying in person does not mean there will be space on the departure you want. Advance booking is useful when a particular journey is central to your route, especially when your schedule has little flexibility.

An independent booking platform may help display options, but it is different from the operating company. Check the total charge, ticket delivery and who handles a change or cancellation.

Do not treat a website name containing “Morocco bus tickets” as evidence that it is the official CTM or Supratours website. Follow the booking through carefully enough to know who is selling the ticket and which company runs the coach.

The same applies when an accommodation arranges tickets for you. Establish whether you receive the operator’s ticket, an agency voucher or a reservation that still needs collection.

CTM Premium Versus Confort

CTM Premium is a coach product, not a promise that every journey has identical conditions. CTM advertises reclining leather seats, footrests, adjustable air vents, USB charging, Wi-Fi and dedicated boarding lounges for its Premium offering.

Compare those features with what matters on your route. Additional seating comfort may be useful on a longer journey; a convenient departure and arrival can matter more on a short one.

Check whether Premium is actually offered for your selected departure. A company’s general product page does not establish that the upgraded coach runs on every route.

Treat internet and charging as conveniences rather than requirements your day depends on. Keep tickets and accommodation instructions offline. A Wi-Fi label does not guarantee a stable video meeting or continuous coverage.

A dedicated waiting area also needs to fit your boarding location and its operating arrangements. Do not arrive at an unrelated agency expecting access to a particular lounge.

An upgraded coach still has a fixed route and stops. It does not include a hotel transfer or sightseeing unless the booking explicitly adds them.

Find the Correct Terminal

A ticket saying Marrakech, Casablanca or Fes is only part of the departure plan.

Identify the exact boarding point, save it on your phone and send it to the person arranging your ride. Ask the accommodation to verify the operator’s location if the map results show several similarly named places.

CTM’s agency directory illustrates why this matters. It lists multiple Casablanca locations, while its Marrakech listing identifies Boulevard Aboubaker Seddiq and Zineb Nefzaouia. Its Fes listing identifies Gare CTM Atlas opposite the first-instance court.

Those listings help identify the operator’s locations; your ticket remains the reference for where your coach departs. An agency that sells tickets is not automatically the boarding point for every service.

Do not assume all Casablanca departures use the central location near Casa Port. Do not tell a taxi driver only “the bus station” in Marrakech.

For Supratours, keep the same discipline. A convenient connection with a train does not make its stop interchangeable with CTM or the municipal terminal.

Arrive Early Enough to Register Luggage

A staff member labels a suitcase before loading it into a coach’s luggage compartment in Morocco

CTM’s published conditions require arrival at least thirty minutes before departure when you have hold luggage, or fifteen minutes without it. Leave additional time for reaching an unfamiliar terminal or resolving a booking issue.

Do not plan to arrive at the baggage counter at the last possible minute. Registration, payment and locating the vehicle all take time.

Present the ticket and ask where to register your bag. Keep the luggage receipt or claim portion after the label is attached, then check that the bag is loaded onto the correct coach.

At boarding, compare the service details with your ticket and ask staff when unsure. A coach showing your destination may still be a different departure.

Before settling into your seat, put anything you need during the journey in the small bag travelling with you. You may not be able to retrieve items from the hold between stops.

Luggage Fees and Allowances

CTM hold luggage

CTM’s FAQ lists baggage charges starting at 5 MAD for an item up to 20 kg. Treat this as a starting price, not a universal 5–7 MAD charge for every bag or journey.

Its published allowance describes up to two hold bags, each no heavier than 20 kg, with the sum of height, width and depth not exceeding 170 cm. Oversized or heavier items need acceptance and an additional assessment.

CTM also specifies a cabin-bag limit of 40 × 50 × 16 cm. Check the conditions applicable to your journey before relying on a bag you normally take aboard an aircraft.

Supratours luggage

Supratours states that hold bags require registration and labels, with a supplement per item. Confirm the charge through its sales channel rather than transferring CTM’s starting price to another company.

Its published information permits a maximum of two hand-luggage items, stored overhead without blocking the aisle. Size and suitability still matter; two items is not permission to bring two large suitcases into the passenger area.

Equipment and valuables

Ask in advance about surfboards, bicycles, musical instruments, pushchairs and mobility equipment. Explain the packed dimensions and whether the item folds.

Keep identification, medication, electronics and valuables in a manageable bag under your supervision. Photograph your labelled suitcase before loading and retain the baggage receipt until collection.

If your journey changes coaches, ask what you must collect and reload. Do not assume the bags follow automatically just because both tickets use the same brand.

Rest Stops and the Onboard Journey

A passenger wearing a seatbelt watches the countryside from a long-distance coach in Morocco

Bring water, suitable snacks, a light layer and anything you need without opening the hold. A compact bag at your seat is more useful than several loose belongings.

Use the seatbelt and follow the crew’s instructions. Keep aisles and exits clear, and avoid moving around while the coach is travelling.

Do not assume every coach has an available toilet. If toilet access is important, ask about the vehicle and planned breaks before booking.

At a rest stop, establish the departure time and return to the correct coach promptly. Stop length varies; a general claim of fifteen to thirty minutes is not a promise for your journey.

Keep your ticket and valuables with you when leaving the vehicle. A meal stop is a scheduled pause, not an opportunity to explore the surrounding town independently.

For a longer ride, download entertainment beforehand and bring headphones. Keep calls brief and consider other passengers when reclining.

Daytime or Overnight Bus

An overnight departure can reduce the need for one hotel night, but compare what happens before boarding and after arrival.

A reclining coach seat is not a sleeper berth. Consider whether you are likely to rest sufficiently and how that affects the following day.

A very early arrival may precede hotel reception or room availability. Agree luggage storage or check-in arrangements rather than arriving at a locked property.

Daylight travel can be useful when you want to see the route or prefer arriving while local transport and reception are easier to arrange. It still needs enough time in your itinerary.

For a mountain road, consider winding sections and your own comfort. If motion sickness is a concern, seek appropriate advice before travelling rather than assuming a seat choice solves it.

Whichever departure you choose, avoid a tightly timed onward flight or prepaid activity. A published arrival is a planning point, not a guarantee against traffic or road disruption.

Routes Where Coaches Can Add to a Morocco Trip

Fes or Tangier to Chefchaouen

Chefchaouen requires a road journey rather than a direct railway arrival. Check the date-specific coach options from your actual starting city and compare the terminal with your accommodation.

At the other end, allow for the approach to the medina, including slopes or steps. Send the riad your arrival details and ask which vehicle access point it recommends.

Once settled, Visit Morocco Together’s Chefchaouen guided walking tour through the blue medina can provide local context. It uses a central meeting point rather than hotel pickup, so arrange it separately from your coach arrival and check the walking demands.

Marrakech to Essaouira

Essaouira is a road stage from Marrakech. Compare the available coach departures and arrival locations rather than choosing only by operator name.

For a medina stay, include the final walk and luggage arrangements. A morning departure may leave useful time after arrival, but room access and the actual schedule determine what fits.

A guided Essaouira sunset walk through the medina and coastal surroundings can suit a later part of the stay. With Visit Morocco Together, confirm the start, duration and meeting point; leave a buffer after a coach journey rather than tying the walk to the bus’s expected arrival.

Marrakech to Agadir and onward to the surf coast

An Agadir coach arrival is not necessarily the end of the journey if your room is in Tamraght, Taghazout or a property farther along the coast.

Compare the final local ride with a booking that takes you closer to the property. If you carry surfing equipment, resolve acceptance and charges before buying.

The Morocco coastal towns comparison helps distinguish an Agadir city base from a smaller surf-oriented stay. Transport should serve the place you actually choose.

Southern valleys and desert gateways

A coach can form part of a southern journey, but the named town on the ticket may be separate from your accommodation or desert camp.

Check whether you are arriving in Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Erfoud, Merzouga or another gateway and what the next stage requires. Arrange any camp meeting point, luggage storage and onward vehicle before arrival.

Do not confuse reaching a town with joining a sunset excursion. A long bus ride ending near the dunes may still require a transfer and time to check in.

Train and Bus Connections Need Their Own Plan

When combining rail and coach, inspect every segment and identify the change location.

Ask whether the train and bus form one sold journey or two independently purchased bookings. Establish the arrangements if the first service is delayed; a convenient timetable does not automatically protect a separate ticket.

Allow time to leave the train, retrieve belongings, reach the coach boarding area and register luggage where required. The connection should suit the least mobile person in your group.

If you are buying a coach after an international flight, add immigration, baggage collection and airport-to-terminal travel. An airport arrival time is not the time you can board an intercity coach.

Keep the two booking references, terminal information and accommodation contact together. If the connection is too tight to tolerate an ordinary delay, choose a later service or stay overnight.

Changes and Cancellations

CTM distinguishes tickets with and without its Flex option. Its published rules allow changes at least twelve hours before departure, subject to conditions and availability; fees can differ by ticket option.

CTM Flex provides qualifying reimbursement as a CTM purchase voucher, with a six-month validity and single-use conditions. It is not automatically money returned to your bank card. Read the deadlines and deductions before paying for flexibility.

Supratours publishes its own after-sales conditions, including different handling for e-tickets and tickets bought at an agency. Check the fare on your issued ticket instead of assuming its rules match CTM Flex.

If you miss a departure, contact the seller or operator promptly. Do not assume the same ticket allows you onto a later coach.

Keep the original confirmation and the conditions accepted at purchase. If you booked through an intermediary, establish whether it must handle the request.

Delays and Luggage Problems

A scheduled coach can still be delayed by traffic, weather, roadworks or other disruption. Look at the consequences for your own itinerary rather than treating a company’s reputation as a guaranteed arrival time.

If a delay affects accommodation access, contact the property before reception closes. For a missed separately booked connection, obtain the operator’s instructions before making assumptions about replacement transport.

At arrival, inspect and collect your bag before leaving. CTM instructs passengers to report loss or damage at the arrival point to the driver or agency staff. Retain the baggage ticket and obtain a record of the report.

Take photographs where useful and record the journey details. Avoid packing on the assumption that any loss would automatically be reimbursed at full replacement value.

Families and Accessibility

Enter children’s ages accurately when booking. CTM’s published policy requires a full-fare seated ticket from age four; younger-child arrangements need discussion if you want a separate seat or restraint.

An operator permitting a child to travel on an adult’s lap is not confirmation that your preferred child restraint can be installed. Ask about the actual vehicle and arrangements.

For reduced mobility, discuss the boarding steps, seating position, toilet access and help available at both terminals. Carrying a folded wheelchair in the hold is different from providing accessible boarding or a wheelchair space aboard.

Explain assistance needs before payment. A journey described as comfortable for general passengers may still be unsuitable for someone unable to climb coach steps.

Compare the Whole Cost

Your coach budget may include:

  • Passenger tickets and the chosen coach category.
  • Hold-luggage charges.
  • Travel from the hotel to the departure terminal.
  • Onward transport and any agreed luggage help.
  • Food or drinks during a long journey.
  • An extra night if the timing requires it.

For an illustrative calculation, two tickets at an assumed 100 MAD each, two bags at an assumed 5 MAD each and local rides totalling an assumed 60 MAD would make 270 MAD for the pair. These are example inputs, not a quote for a Moroccan route.

Apply the same calculation to the real tickets you find. The Morocco travel budget becomes more useful when transport is counted from one accommodation to the next.

A private quote may be worth comparing for several passengers or a complicated final destination. It is not automatically cheaper, and the vehicle must fit the luggage as well as the people.

An Eight Day Northern Route Using Coaches

For eight days and seven nights, one focused example is:

  • Nights one and two: Fes.
  • Nights three, four and five: Chefchaouen.
  • Nights six and seven: Tangier.
  • Day eight: departure.

Day two is the full Fes day. Day three moves to Chefchaouen, leaving days four and five there. Day six moves to Tangier, with day seven available for the city.

This example depends on suitable arrivals, departures and coach services for your dates. It is a planning sequence, not a confirmed timetable or package.

Extra time in Chefchaouen gives room for a slower day or a separately arranged excursion. Do not insert a substantial mountain hike into the coach-transfer day simply because both appear possible on a map.

For a southern alternative, Marrakech and Essaouira can create a simpler two-base trip. Choose a coherent route rather than collecting coach tickets to distant cities.

Questions About CTM and Bus Travel in Morocco

Is CTM the same company as Supratours?

No. They are separate operators with their own sales arrangements, stops and passenger conditions. Supratours is an ONCF subsidiary associated with rail continuations.

Can I show a CTM ticket on my phone?

CTM states that its e-ticket does not need printing. Save the usable ticket offline, keep your phone charged and follow the instructions issued with the booking.

Is luggage included in the ticket?

Do not assume so. CTM and Supratours describe separately charged hold-luggage services. Establish the amount for your bags and retain the registration receipt.

Are all CTM coaches Premium?

No. Check the category of the particular departure. Facilities advertised for Premium should not be applied to every CTM service.

Are bus stations next to railway stations?

Sometimes a connection is convenient, but the exact boarding point still needs checking. CTM, Supratours, municipal terminals and ticket agencies are not interchangeable locations.

Can I get off to visit a town and continue later?

Do not treat a regular intercity ticket as a hop-on, hop-off pass. Separate visits require a suitable stopover and onward booking, with luggage and accommodation planned accordingly.

Is an overnight bus a good way to save money?

It may save one room night, but compare sleep, arrival transport, reception hours and room access. A cheaper night journey can leave you too tired for the day you wanted to enjoy.
