Dumbbells, medicine balls and barbells inside Dune Training in Marrakech

Choosing among the best gyms in Marrakech starts with a simple question: do you want to follow your own lifting programme, join a coached session, or combine a workout with swimming? Dune Training and Canal Forme offer different answers, and both publish passes for visitors.

Dune is the stronger match for a traveller seeking functional training equipment and a clearly priced gym session. Canal Forme gives you a wider club visit, with machine training, cardio, classes and a pool. Choose around your training needs and the location of your accommodation, then leave time for the rest of your Marrakech visit.

How we selected the best gyms in Marrakech for this comparison

This is an editorial shortlist informed by published reviews, equipment information and practical visitor access. It is not a claim that every gym in Marrakech has been assessed.

The review snapshots checked on 6 November 2026 show Dune at 5.0/5 from 329 Google reviews on its own website and Canal Forme at 4.4/5 from 214 Google reviews on its website. These are operator-displayed figures; they have not been independently audited as live Google totals.

Dune appears first by that displayed average. Its appeal for visitors also rests on its published pass and equipment details. Canal Forme earns its place through a different combination of facilities. Neither score tells you whether your preferred station will be free at a particular hour.

Dune Training for barbells and coached conditioning

Dune is at City Bureaux, 60 Avenue Mohammed V, Guéliz. Contact +212 666 402925.

The operator publishes 150 MAD for gym-only access and 220 MAD for gym access plus one group class. You can visit for the gym pass without a reservation; check availability and reserve your place if you want a class. Ask whether the stations you need remain available during group sessions.

Its equipment descriptions list racks, dumbbells, machines, Eleiko Olympic bars, bumper plates, Concept2 rowers, SkiErgs, sleds, kettlebells, rings, climbing ropes, boxes and GHD equipment. Published ranges include dumbbells up to 50 kg and kettlebells from 4 to 48 kg. The pass page lists showers, lockers and Wi-Fi.

How to use that equipment in a familiar routine

Racks and bars support exercises such as squats and presses. Squatting involves the thighs and glutes; an overhead press involves the shoulders and triceps. Before a solo session, check the rack’s safety arms and how its bench setup works.

Dumbbells make a short workout adaptable. You can use familiar presses, rows or split squats without waiting for a particular machine. A one-sided suitcase carry challenges grip and trunk control, although its resemblance to carrying luggage should not be read as proof that one session improves your travel fitness.

Kettlebells suit goblet squats and loaded carries. Swings require a practiced hip hinge and should not be learned at speed simply because they appear in a group workout. Tell the coach if that movement is new to you.

Rowers and SkiErgs provide different conditioning patterns. Rowing combines a leg drive with trunk movement and an arm pull. A SkiErg involves coordinated upper-body, trunk and leg work. Both can be used at a controlled effort; neither needs to become a maximum-output test.

Sleds and gymnastics equipment are useful for more specialised training. Rings, ropes and GHD stations add options for experienced users, but a visitor can have a worthwhile session without using them.

When Dune fits your trip

Choose this format if free weights and functional conditioning already feature in your routine, or if you want a coached introduction to the day’s class. Discuss substitutions before starting.

If you mainly want a sequence of bodybuilding machines, ask for the current machine list. A well-stocked functional studio does not automatically provide every isolation station.

Canal Forme for strength machines cardio and swimming

Canal Forme is at 53 Rue Abou Bakr Seddiq, Guéliz. The operator publishes a 250 MAD full-club day pass, covering the floor, classes and pool according to their timetables.

The listed longer passes are 700 MAD for seven days, 1,200 MAD for 15 days and 1,800 MAD for 30 days. A complimentary trial is limited to Marrakech residents with Moroccan ID, once per person and subject to reception confirmation. It is not the standard tourist offer.

The mixed training floor includes selectorized machines, plate-loaded equipment and free weights, with Life Fitness and JW Sport equipment. Published cardio types include treadmills, ellipticals, stairs, bikes, a rower, Concept2 SkiErg and Rogue air bike. The operator also describes racks, bars and dumbbells.

Understand the difference between the training areas

Rowing machines, ellipticals, stair climbers and exercise bikes at Canal Forme in Marrakech

On a selectorized machine, you move a pin to choose the load. This can save setup time, but you still need to adjust the seat and starting position.

A plate-loaded machine uses separate weight plates. Its resistance and movement path may feel different from a similar-looking model at home. Start conservatively while you check the fit.

With free weights, you can change exercises more easily when a station is occupied. A row trains pulling through the back and elbow flexors; a press works a pushing pattern through the chest, shoulders and triceps.

For cardio, a treadmill lets you control pace and incline, while a bike offers seated exercise. An elliptical has a different stepping and impact pattern from running. The air bike becomes demanding quickly, so choose an effort that fits your day.

Women only training and pool access

Canal Forme publishes a dedicated women’s area within the club pass. Confirm which equipment is inside that area if you plan to train there exclusively.

Before buying access specifically for swimming, check lane availability, mixed and women-only periods, swimwear requirements and the day’s schedule. Pool access should not be confused with an included spa treatment, and swimming is not a guarantee of faster recovery.

Day pass or weekly pass

At the published Canal Forme prices, three separate visits cost 750 MAD, while the seven-day pass costs 700 MAD. The weekly option becomes cheaper at the third visit if its conditions suit your dates. For two sessions, individual passes cost less.

Make the same calculation with any other package using the full amount due. Check validity, entry limits and whether classes require separate booking. A cheap monthly equivalent is not necessarily a short-stay offer.

Transport belongs in the comparison too. A lower entry price can lose its appeal when every session adds a long return journey from your riad.

Put training in the right part of the day

Compare gym locations with your Marrakech accommodation area before buying repeat visits. If you stay in the medina, include the walk to a vehicle pickup point in your timing.

On a short city break, one convenient workout may fit better than daily attendance. Over a longer stay, a nearby club and flexible pass can help you keep a routine.

Avoid an unfamiliar, exhausting leg session immediately before your longest sightseeing day if you know it tends to leave you sore. The aim is to keep exercise compatible with the trip.

What journals support about exercise and travel

Bull and colleagues’ 2020 WHO guideline paper recommends combining weekly aerobic activity with muscle strengthening on at least two days for adults.

Spiering and colleagues’ 2021 review describes performance maintenance with reduced training under conditions that include retaining exercise intensity.

These findings concern general activity and reduced-training programmes. They do not test tourists at these Marrakech gyms or show that a holiday workout prevents food poisoning, dehydration or jet lag.

A gym provides controlled resistance and an indoor setting when your normal routine is disrupted. Walking, sleep, meals and recovery still have their own place. Include wider health and safety preparation alongside your gym plans.

A short session that leaves energy for sightseeing

For someone who already trains, a useful structure is a warm-up followed by one familiar leg exercise, one push and one pull. Add comfortable cardio or a short carry if you have time and space.

Use loads you can control, begin lighter on unfamiliar equipment and finish before technique deteriorates. You do not need to test a personal record to make the visit worthwhile.

For a beginner, an introduction to a few machines is more useful than rushing through a demanding circuit. Ask staff to show the adjustments and any release mechanisms.

Account for the journey in warm weather, keep water available and reduce effort when unusually fatigued. Skip strenuous exercise when acutely unwell.

Before you arrive

Ask about last admission, towel provision, locker arrangements and same-day re-entry. For a class, check the arrival time and cancellation conditions.

Be precise about equipment: “Is there a free squat rack with safety arms?” gets a more useful answer than “Is the gym fully equipped?” Request a recent photo if one station determines whether you will make the journey.

Bring clean shoes, sports clothing, water and a small towel. Add swimwear only if it is part of the plan; the Morocco packing list helps keep your kit compact.

Dune has the higher operator-displayed average in this comparison. That is not proof of a citywide ranking.

Can tourists train without a membership?

Both clubs publish paid visitor passes. Their prices and included facilities differ.

Where should I start for weight machines?

Canal Forme publishes a broader machine-floor description. If your programme depends on a particular model, confirm it before paying.

Check the exact session and area. Canal Forme lists a dedicated women’s space alongside mixed training.

Does a gym pass include a personal trainer?
